New York Islanders Aim to Host Winter Classic at Belmont Park

The New York Islanders are actively considering the possibility of hosting the Winter Classic and other significant NHL events at the newly reconstructed Belmont Park. Islanders president of business operations, Kelly Cheeseman, emphasized that while discussions are ongoing, they are not yet at a definitive stage regarding scheduling. The rebuilt Belmont Park is set to reopen for racing on September 18, and there is a strong desire from both the Islanders and the New York Racing Association (NYRA) to collaborate on creating a vibrant event space. Cheeseman noted that hosting an outdoor game is a priority for the Islanders, as they aim to elevate their presence in the league and the community. The Islanders have also secured the All-Star Weekend at UBS Arena on February 5-6, 2027, showcasing their ambition to host marquee events. The partnership with NYRA aims to foster a campus environment that could include concerts and other sporting events, further integrating the Islanders into the local sports culture. As the team continues to grow, they are focused on playing in and hosting significant games, both nationally and internationally.
