The New York Islanders selected right-shot defenseman Vladimir Davecky with pick No. 141 in the fifth round of the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
The Islanders chose Davecky out of the Guelph Storm in the OHL, where he tallied nine goals with 19 assists for 28 points in 58 games.
He also scored five assists in 11 games with the Czechia U20 team in international competition.
Davecky's selection addresses the team's long-term needs on the right side of the ice, and he may have been a steal in the fifth round.
Some scouts expected him to be selected around the third round.
The Islanders are currently 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 43-34 record, on a L3 streak.
The Islanders are slated to draft two more times, once each in rounds six and seven.
Day 2 of the NHL Draft is available to watch on NHL Network, Sportsnet, and ESPN+.
Davecky is now the third defenseman selected by New York, and the second right-shot blueliner chosen by general manager Mathieu Darche.
He has a well-rounded game, possessing strong mobility and hockey sense.
The blueliner doesn't have a standout trait, but he may have scored more on a less talented team.
Davecky was stuck behind other defensemen within the Brantford depth chart.
Standing at 6’0” and 192 pounds, Davecky has the potential to make an impact on the Islanders' blue line.
