New York Islanders Share Ice with Special Olympics New York

New York Islanders prospects shared the ice with Special Olympics New York on Tuesday, creating an unforgettable experience for children.

The event took place after the second day of development camp practices.

What happened?

Isles prospects, including Tomas Poletin and Gleb Veremyev, guided children around the rink, providing support and encouragement.

Nine-year-old Emerson, who doesn't usually like new things, was smiling and laughing as he laced up a pair of skates for the first time.

Why it matters for New York Islanders

The event allowed Isles prospects to give back to the community and make a positive impact on the children's lives.

"It's always great to give back to the fans and especially to these kids," said Tomas Poletin.

What comes next?

The New York Islanders are currently standing 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 43-34 record, on a L3 streak, as of July 1, 2026.

The team's prospects are focused on developing their skills and making a positive impact in the community.

And the event with Special Olympics New York was a great opportunity for them to do so.

But the experience was not just beneficial for the children, it also had a profound impact on the Isles prospects.

So they were able to learn and grow from the experience.

The children, ranging in age from six to 15, had varying skating abilities, but all were able to participate and have fun.

Danny Nelson, an Isles prospect, said "It's a chance for us to slow down a little bit and kind of realize why we do it."

The event was a heartwarming experience for all involved, and the New York Islanders are proud to have been a part of it.
